1. About SDMCET, Dharwad About Us

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Engineering and Technology (SDMCET), Dharwad, was established in 1979 under the aegis of the SDM Educational Society, Ujire. The Institution by the visionary leadership of its Revered President, Padma Vibhushana Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, with the primary objective of making education accessible and affordable to everyone.

SDMCET made its humble beginning with three engineering programs Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering with an initial intake of 90 students. Over the years, the Institution has expanded to 08 Undergraduate programs, 05 Postgraduate programs, and MBA program, with 11 departments recognized as Research Centres by VTU, Belagavi. The current intake is 660 for UG and 150 for PG, with a total student strength of 3,105. The Institution is supported by 149 faculty members, of them 79 hold Ph.D. degrees, and 248 supporting staff. SDMCET obtained autonomous status in 2007 and included under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The Institution is beneficiary of TEQIP Phase I and II of the World Bank grants. The Institution is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade (3.03 CGPA) and 06 eligible UG programs accredited under Tier-I by NBA. SDMCET was placed in 200-250 band in 2020-2021, and placed in 250 to 300 band in NIRF ranking and participating every year.

SDMCET is forerunner in adopting recommendations of NEP 2020 in curricula employing innovative teaching–learning methods, well-equipped laboratories. The institution also progressively implements OBE based teaching learning system, offering industry-aligned elective courses, value-addition programs in soft skills, programming, and domain-specific skills, and curriculum includes with mandatory and audit courses such as Biology for Engineers, Environmental Science, Yoga, NSS, and Physical Education. Summer internships (4 weeks) and long-term industry internships (12 weeks) are also integrated into the curriculum.

SDMCET received research grants of Rs. 330.00 lakhs from funding agencies such as AICTE, VGST, DST, ARDB DRDO, IIT Dharwad and UBA. The institution houses 10 startups and 04 have been successfully incubated so far. Presently 6 startups are actively functioning in the areas like IOT, Web developing, Agriculture and medical fields. There are 23 active MoUs supporting jointly for research projects, internships and skill development. The Bosch Rexroth Centre of Excellence enriches industry-oriented training. Since autonomy, 13 copyrights, 24 patents published and 05 patents have been granted, and faculty contributed more than 1400 publications, attended 800 seminar/workshops/STTPs/FDPs, and conference. Around 200 seminar/workshops/STTPs/FDPs, and conference were organized.

Students have achieved consistently high academic performance with an average pass percentage of 95.28%. On an average 550 placement offers were secured, with the highest package reaching Rs. 40 Lakhs and an average package of 5 Lakhs. Students also excel in co-curricular and extracurricular domains over 200 event participations, 50 VTU blues, significant contributions to journals, community services, and national-level competitions. Several student projects have been funded by KSCST every year with an average amount of Rs.30000.00, and a few received best project awards in the state level competition.

The Institution maintains a strong alumni network with 22,183 members globally. Alumni have contributed Rs. 17.06 lakhs in the last year and Rs. 43.45 lakhs over the past five years, supporting scholarships, book banks, technical activities, and the development of an Indoor Sports Complex which has four badminton courts of International standards and other sports facilities.

SDMCET is committed to sustainability through its Environmental Management Plan (EMP). A 300 KLD Sewage Treatment Plant with SBR technology enables wastewater recycling for gardening. Two rainwater harvesting systems collect nearly 15 lakhs litres annually, and solid waste is converted into compost. Solar panels 250 kWp installations across campus significantly reduce energy consumption from the grid. SDMCET is recognized in the Sustainable Institutions of India Green Ranking 2025 and placed in Diamond Category. The Institution organizes national and international events, including the International Conference 2023 (IEEE), which received over 800 papers, and the national techno-cultural fest INSIGNIA a signature event every year. SDMCET has also adopted five villages and actively conducts outreach programs in association with NSS, UBA, and other social initiatives.

Recent academic expansions include the start of UG program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (2022–23) and a PG program in Electric Vehicle Technology (2023–24). The Management has earmarked Rs. 25 lakhs seed money for Institution Innovation Council (IIC) activities and allocates Rs. 10 lakhs annually to promote research and innovation. The SDMCET obtained Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) ranking with 3.5/5 star rating in 2024. With its strong academic foundation, research culture, student-centric initiatives, and societal commitment, SDMCET continues to uphold its vision & mission of imparting quality technical education with integrity, excellence, and sustainability.

The institution is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade and several programs are accredited by NBA. It promotes outcome-based education, research, innovation, internships, and industry collaboration.

2. About SDME Society

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational [SDME] Society, Ujire® was established with the primary objective of making education accessible and affordable to rural youth. With the hallmarked vision of inculcating Value into Education, at present, it manages 56 educational institutions from Kindergarten to Doctoral Studies in the state of Karnataka in India. The institutions offer quality education in the fields of General, Law, Technical, Medical and Management Studies. These institutions ensure quality through updated skill sets and value based education. The SDME Society Trust Office is located at Ujire, which acts as the central functioning unit for all management actions for SDM Institutions.
