National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched on Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service.

The Motto of NSS, “Not Me But You”, imitates the essence of self-governing living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show thought to other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well said in its motto which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

The NSS Unit of SDMCET Dharwad, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Ramesh L. Chakrasali, Principal, has 100 registered student volunteers and different department coordinators. It is witnessed that the number of students pledging their time and efforts to the selfless community service has increased over the years. A special Camp supported by Principal and NSS Program Officer(Prof. Anand Vaidya) was held in Yerikoppa village, wherein hundreds of boys and girls participated enthusiastically. The major activities carried out during this camp involved Swachata abhiyan, Plastic free campaign and general health checkup. Students who attended the camp were given certificates.

The NSS team has been organizing various events throughout the year, which include Blood donation camp, Yoga Day, Plastic free campaign, Drinking water standards in adopted villages, Orphanage Visit and National Youth Day.
