“Sharing and Dissemination of Technical knowledge is the need of the hour”

SHRI MANOHAR M. BEVINMAR, Chief Engineer O&M Zone, HESCOM, Hubli,

Sharing and Dissemination of Technical knowledge is the need of the hour and Indian engineers need to work in this direction opinedSHRI MANOHAR M. BEVINMAR, Chief Engineer O&M Zone HESCOM, Hubli, while inauguratingFourth National Conference on “Power Systems Engineering” organized by theDepartment of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad on 20th,April 2018. Electrical energy is the highly opted form of energy and one cannot imagine the life without electricity. Even each drop of water we drink today is due to electricity. One of the key parameters for development of a nation is its per capita consumption of electrical energy. Electrical power generation, transmission, distribution and utilisation are the key areas of research in electrical engineering.

Few years back the demand for electrical energy was more than the supply, shortage upof 20% to25%. At that time engineers were concentrating on increasing the generation of electricity.  The effect of shortage was severe during the summer season. Presently the situation has been changed, that is supply has become more than the demand. Improvements in the transmission network, distribution network, energy efficient practices, are the key areas he added. The available abundant power is the concerned of today. The transmission losses are reduced from 28% to 14.5% due to the efforts of researchers and practicing engineers. Electricity has to be utilised immediately. Hence, engineers face challenges in the surplus power scenario to manage reduction in generation. Independent power producer are also playing a vital role in Wind and Solar Power Generation. Thus, managing the available electricity is the immediate challenges for the electrical engineers.

He emphasized on the importance of the real time challenges relating to power system engineering and require innovative means to address the same. Also highlighted the importance of knowledge creation and knowledge dissemination for the knowledge growth of the students.

Guest of honor ShriJEEVANDHARKUMAR Secretary SDME society, Dharwad expressed the importance of academics and industry interactions.

DR.S.B.Vanakudre, Principal, mentioned the need of application based research in his presidential remarks and stressed upon the societal benefits of such conferences in solving day today problems. He also elaborated upon the innovation and research components in engineering curriculum.

Dr G. S Punekar,Professor, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surthkal, Mangaloredelivered the key note address on “Recent Trends in High Voltage Engineering”.

In all, fortypapers on different fields of Electrical and Electronics engineering were presented by the PG students, research scholars and personnel from Government organizations. The papers threw light on the upcoming methodology of operating modern power Systems. Totally seventypeople from different places like Goa,  Andhra Pradesh, Kerala,Maharashtra, Karnataka etc. participated in the event.
