E&E Engineering

The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was established in the year 1979 with an intake of 30 seats which was further enhanced to 60 in 1993. The department is recognized by AICTE, affiliated to VTU, Belagavi. The program has been approved an Autonomous Status since 2007. M. Tech program in “Power Systems Engineering” has been started from the academic year 2012-13. This program is also affiliated to VTU, Belagavi and has been approved an Autonomous Status since 2016-17. The department is recognized as Research Center by VTU, Belagavi for M. Sc. (Engg) & Ph. D. Degree since 2004. UG program of the department is accredited for the third time by NBA (From July 2018 to June 2021) which ensured that students studying here will receive education which is a balance between high academic quality and professional competence and the one that the corporate world needs. The main vision of the department is to develop globally acceptable Electrical & Electronics Engineering professions with human values.

Right from its inception, Department is working with the motto “Professional Competence with positive Attitude”. The Department have 16 (5 Ph.Ds.) qualified experienced and dedicated faculty members having specialization in Power Systems, Electrical Machines and Control, Control systems, Power Electronics, Digital Electronics etc. The department has well equipped labs to cater to the flexible curricula encompassing  Electrical Machine lab, Power System lab with relevant Software, Relay and High Voltage Lab, Power Electronics Lab, Microprocessor and Microcontrollers Lab, Electronics Lab, Measurement Lab, Computing facility and relevant softwares. Two senior faculty members shouldering college level administration responsibilities. The department has a staff student ratio of 1:15. The academic ambience and student teacher relationship is very good. The department encourages the students to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities for overall development.The department has MOU with HESCOM; Hubballi to facilitate the students for their industrial training and project work. The department also offers testing and third party inspections to private and government bodies.

The department faculties and students are actively involved in research and development; in 2018-19 more than 50 research papers are published by them in various national and international journals as well as in conferences. The projects carried out by many of our students are more realistic and hence recognized and sponsored by various funding agency. The placement records of our department are quite encouraging and on an average more than 60% of eligible students are getting placed every year in various reputed companies such as KPIT, Continental, TCS, Bosch, Accenture, Karmic and many more.

Dr. Gopalkrishna Dhruvaraj Kamalapur is Professor in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad, Karnataka, INDIA. Dr. Ramesh L. Chakrasali is presently working as a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Dean(Academic Program) and Dean (Research and Development), SDM College of Engineering &Technology Dharwad.

He obtained his B.E. (Electrical) and M.E. (Digital Electronics) from SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad, affiliated to Karnataka University, Dharwad. He was awarded Ph.D. from Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum, in the field of renewable energy sources based standalone micro hybrid grid.

Dr. Ramesh Chakrasali has 28 years of teaching experience. He is a Fellow of IE (I), IETE and life member of ISTE. His areas of interests being power system SCADA, Digital Electronics and Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Equipment and Utilization of Electrical Power. He teaches subjects like Digital Electronics, Digital System Design using VHDL, Computer Networks, and Power System SCADA, Deregulation of Power Systems etc.

Dr. Ramesh has guided more than 40 UG projects and 10 PG projects. Currently 8 students are pursuing their Ph.D. under his guidance in different areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

He has published 2 papers in Elsevier International Journal and 11in other international journals. He also has published 2paper in national journal and presented more than 18papers in national and 10 in international conferences.

He has also authored three books viz Basic Electrical engineering, Testing and Commissioning of Electrical Equipment and Electrical Power Utilization. He has coauthored a book on The Constitution of India and Professional Ethics.

Apart from teaching and research he is a regular speaker on domain specific and general engineering related topics in several conferences, pedagogical trainings and workshops.

Prof. Chakrasali has worked as a member accreditation team constituted by The Institution of Engineers (India) for Electrical Engineering branch to accredit UG program of an Engineering College and LIC memberof VTU and Goa Universities. He has worked in various capacities at different universities examination work. Prof. Chakrasali is serving as Member of Academic bodies like

Member BOS, SG University Kolhapur, Member BOE, SIT Tumkur, Member Doctorate committee, RVCE Bengaluru, Member DUGC,DPGC, BOE, BOS, and Academic council at SDMCET, Dharwad.Currently he is the Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (India) Dharwad Local Centre, Dharwad.
